S1 Mantus Swivel

(24 customer reviews)

SKU: US1 Category:

The strongest link – Mantus swivel is stronger than its corresponding Grade 40 chain. (WLL is 1/5 UBS)

Integrated shackle design completely eliminates side loading making this the safest swivel on the market.

The pin on the chain side of the swivel is the strength limiting part since the geometry of the chain determines the pin size. Mantus swivel is the first to feature an oblong pin to maximizes the pin strength, with the aid of computer modeling and physical testing we truly created a swivel that is the strongest link.

Bought the Mantus S2 swivel about a year ago and have used it many times but the last time was Friday May 4, 2018. After being caught in a squall in the Gulf of Mexico on the 4th of May and spending a very rough night in 7 to 8 foot waves – adrift, we were picked up by the Coast Guard on the morning of the 5th and pulled off our Sailboat. They dropped our anchor in the storm and left our boat/home out there. When we called TowBoat US and gave them the location, they told us to call our Insurance, that the boat would be gone. Thirty-six hours later TowBoat US recovered our boat in the location where the anchor had been dropped. The anchor held, but more importantly the swivel which would be the most likely failure point, also held. Everything held so well that they had to cut the anchor rode to release the boat, losing all of our ground tackle, a small price to pay in saving our home. Thank You Mantus, for being a critical part in saving our boat. The Mantus Swivel will always be a part of any anchor system we have on our boat. (and the 55lb anchor of course)

Bought a Mantus Swivel S2 to ensure we could pull our Manson Boss (!!) anchor up straight! Also some Mantus 316 SS anchor shackles –

All works perfectly – exactly as designed. There are so many low-grade imitations on the market – getting superlative quality at a reasonable price from Mantus was just awesome!

When we add another anchor – it will definitely be a Mantus!

I bought the S1 swivel along with a new stainless 17lb Mantus anchor. What a perfect combo! The swivel is very heavy duty and well made. I especially like the oval pin used to connect the chain to the swivel. That thing is never going to break!!!

Installation was a little awkward using the stainless lock wire, so I opted to use the lock wire only on the shackle, and then used a stainless cotter pin to secure the hood of the swivel. It was much easier and just as secure. I also suggest using a decent amount of the supplied teflon tape as it will take out the play once you screw on the hood. The swivel is much larger than what I had before, but the anchor comes up perfectly faced down everytime now! I’m very pleased with both items!
