Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!!! You have made a fantastic product. This is our 5th season of cruising (family of 4 on a Lagoon 450) and I’ve always been ranting to anyone that will listen about how good the Mantus anchor is having been so reliable in all conditions but last night it exceeded all expectations. We’d had a slower than expected passage from Belize to Mexico and realised we’d probably not make our destination before a forecast cold front came through. The only reasonable option was to anchor in a shallow bay off the end of Cozumel that would provide some shelter from the N/NE. We were expecting gusts to 40 knots so we paid out a bunch of chain and dived the anchor, as usual it had set in its own length and was well buried. At 5pm a massive black rolling front could appeared. The wind went from 15 knots S to 30 knots N in less than a minute then swung back to NW from which we had no protection and proceeded to climb to 40,50, 60 before topping at 97 knots and then settling back to sustained 40+ knots for about 2 hours. Our anchorage pretty much turned into a surf break and we rode breaking waves the whole night. At the peak of the storm we were motoring into the wind to try and reduce some of the load on the anchor but the breaking waves made it impossible to not shock load it. Had the anchor not held we would’ve been onto the beach behind us in minutes (we already had ditch bags packed with all the essentials), we would’ve had no chance to motor into the wind to save the boat at the peak of the storm.
We’ve yet to try and get it up as it’s no doubt buried deep but that’s a small inconvenience versus salvage
